The project demolished an existing chimney as a means to create more functional, open, and energy-efficient spaces on each floor of a hundred-year-old house. Demolishing the chimney allowed the installation of a high performance HVAC system in the basement, as well as the reconfiguration of the main level floor plan to allow open and generous connections between the kitchen, living, and dining spaces. On the upper floors, the chimney demolition allowed for the reconfiguration of each bathroom into a modern and more functional configuration, while the reduced HVAC footprint in the basement allowed for an open rec room space.
